It is anticipated that Nick will be talking after lunch about his brief as the Minister for Civil
Society. The Minister for Civil Society is concerned with public sector efficiency and reform, including transparency and fraud, error and debt & public procurement.
The Minister is also responsible for:
 Volunteering, the Big Society agenda and charities, social investment and enterprises &
reforming public bodies.
Nick’s recent publications include:
 Guidance to help reduce waste and improve relationships when procuring public sector
construction projects.

 The new government fund to help community groups reduce energy bills and manage energy Son of Douglas, Lord Hurd of Westwell, born in Westminster and educated at Oxford, Nick represents the fourth successive generation of his family to serve as an MP. Elected in 2005, Nick Hurd is the Minister for Civil Society. Before entering politics he developed a business career over 18 years which gave him the experience of running his own business and representing a British bank in Brazil. In Parliament his focus has been on social policy and the need for stronger communities and better protection of our natural resources. Nick serves as a member of the Environmental Audit Select Committee (EAC) which concerns itself with environmental protection and sustainability.
